This hereby establishes a judiciary.
Anyone may call for a trial. A trial must be somewhat rooted in the government, or strictly between two nations. The conflict cannot be between two people.
To determine a jury, all citizen nations are assigned a number (1, 2, 3, etc.) in alphabetical order. Then, using random.org, three nations are selected at random as jurors. The founder will be tasked with assigning nations with jury duty. Obviously, the defendant and the prosecutor can not be jurors.
A trial occurs over one week. On Monday, jurors are announced and the prosecution presents its opening statement and evidence. On Tuesday, the defense presents their opening statement and evidence. The defendant may hire a lawyer, or they may defend themselves. On Wednesday, the prosecution can provide a rebuttal as well as a closing statement. On Thursday, the defense may rebut all of the prosecution's statements said so far and provides his/her closing statement. Finally, on Friday, jurors deliberate and vote.
For a verdict to be made, all 3 jurors must vote "guilty" or "innocent." Once a verdict is reached, the jurors' names are announced. If either side believes that one of the jurors had a conflict of interest, they may appeal and then a new randomly selected juror (selected in the process described above) must vote. Appeals consist of either side announcing that they want an appeal and then a populous vote on whether the appeal should happen.
If the jurors vote "guilty," then they may select an appropriate punishment (listed from least to most severe below), unless the punishment for a specific crime is already predetermined:
• Warning / strike
• Temporary withdrawal of citizenship (1 day)
• Temporary suspension of forum account (1 day)
• Temporary withdrawal of citizenship (3 days)
• Temporary suspension of forum account (3 days)
• Ejection from region
• Permanent suspension of forum account
• Ban from region
Edits made to law. Changes are in red.
