One thing I have noticed about this region is that there are a few problems with elected officials.
First of all, our elections are barely elections, considering that one is almost guaranteed a job. It's a lot like a trickle down system, really. If someone doesn't win the presidency or Vice Presidency, then they hope to be chosen for a secretary.( Which, if one came in third in the election, is almost a guaranteed job.) If they don't receive a secretary job, they run for congress. By that time, 5 jobs are already taken up, with 3 remaining. If you haven't gotten a job yet, you are almost guaranteed a job in congress, because everyone else already has a job. If you look at the electoral history of our region, almost all the same people who held government jobs last term have jobs now. This is a huge problem, once you realize that the elected officials really do not have that much power, if any power at all.
This brings to my next point, the fact that officers in our region virtually hold no power.
Congressmembers barely differ from the populous, other than the fact that they receive a title and have the power to create polls. The president is the only powerful figure in the government. Vice President holds almost no power. The only government job with real power is the secretaries, and mostly only the secretary of defense at that. The secretary of the interior has no powers whatsoever, and the Secretary of State only has the ability to decide embassies, a topic of which rarely comes up. The secretary of defense has ability over border control, the only real government job. I have multiple suggestions to fix this.
Revising the Election system. As of right now, almost the same 10 people run for election every time. These 10 people almost always get a government job, because of the runoff system our election works on. I propose a simple way to fix this. If you run for one job in an election, you cannot run for another. For example, if someone ran for president, but they did not win, they couldn't run for congress or a secretary job. Of course, this may cause some issues at first, because many people will want the positions with the most power. This in turn may cause less people to run for congress and the secretary jobs, but some people may realize that they can't win the presidency, so they will try and strive for lesser jobs. This law will cause more competitive elections that actually mean something.
Increasing the powers of elected officials. Right now, most of the elected officials have little to no powers. Raising the abilities of these officers would not only help make our government better, but the elections would be much more meaningful and more people would want jobs. I will be listing the changes that should be made below
President: The president may actually be slightly overpowered. This is why the president should not decide a tiebreaker vote for the populous, but the VP should.
The Presidential Cabinet: All secretaries help serve with the president, and should speak to the president before doing anything drastic.
Vice President: The Vice President is undoubtedly the most underpowered figure in government. The Vice President should have the power to also call a veto, but if 3/4 of congress vote against that veto, it doesn't pass. The Vice President also should receive the ability to decide populous tie breaker votes.
Secretary of the Interior: As of now, the secretary of the interior has little to no power whatsoever. The secretary of the interior should be the nation which chooses whatever proposal should be the proposal of the day, as well as sending out mass telegrams to advertise things such as elections or impeachment trials. The secretary of the Interior should be the main debater on any topic that has to do with large shifts of the inside of the government.
Secretary of State: Although the Secretary of State's powers do match the job, they need more than that. This is why the Secretary of State should be the main driving force behind anything which has to do with foreign affairs.
Secretary of Defense: The secretary of defense does have the power of border control, but I have another suggestion. Very rarely does any nation need to be evicted from the region. However, one current power of the secretary of defense is the ability to appoint the immigration officer. Why bother having an immigration officer, when they could just be the secretary of defense? Not only would this give the secretary of the defense something to do other than to evict nations, but it would allow whoever would have been an immigration officer to run for a different job.
Congressmembers: These people, although extremely beneficial to our government, do very little. The only power they have over the populous is the ability to make polls! I have a suggestion, which would give Congressmembers much more power. In order for a law to be proposed, either a Congressmember must propose it, or any non Congressmember needs to contact a Congressmember and get them to propose the law. This would make congress a much more wanted job, and less of a runoff office.
Please suggest anything that you would want to change to this law.
